Calculate Age in Excel

In this tutorial i will guide you how to calculate your age from your date of birth or anyone whome you want to calculate.

In excel there are different ways to calculate your age from your date of birth which are explained below

There are many function but the best is “DATEDIF” Function.

DATEDIF Function(startdate,enddate,unit) :

This function will Calculates the number of days, months, or years between two dates which you will provide.

  • Y – It will return the number of complete years in the period.
  • M – It will return the number of complete months in the period.
  • D – It will return the number of days in the period.
  • MD – It will return the difference between the days in start_date and end_date. The months and years of the dates are ignored.
  • YM – It will return the difference in days, ignoring months and years.
  • YD – It will return the difference in days, ignoring years.

“Year” Calculation using DATEDIF:

In below image you can see how year is calculated:

Formula = DATEDIF(STARTDATE,ENDDATE,”UNIT”)

Example: =datedif(B2,C2,”Y”) where B2 is Date of Birth, C2 is Today’s Date and Unit “Y” is Year.

“Month” Calculation using DATEDIF:

In below image you can see how month is calculated:

Formula = DATEDIF(STARTDATE,ENDDATE,”UNIT”)

Example: =datedif(B2,C2,”M”) where B2 is Date of Birth, C2 is Today’s Date and Unit “M” is Month.

“Days” Calculation using DATEDIF:

In below image you can see how day is calculated:

Formula = DATEDIF(STARTDATE,ENDDATE,”UNIT”)

Example: =datedif(B2,C2,”M”) where B2 is Date of Birth, C2 is Today’s Date and Unit “D” is days.

Note:

If your “startdate” will be greater than the “enddate” the result will be #NUM!.
